Sport carry for gear that is long, expensive, and hostile to interiors: bike posts and rear-door mounts, interior surf and board racks, and the rear-door boxes built around skis and snowboards. Keeping edges, drivetrains, and wax outside the living space is the whole point.
Sport gear pushes dimensions harder than weight, so check your longest board or biggest wheelbase against the published interior and clearance figures. Door-mounted carry adds load to hinges and changes swing clearance, and interior racks need anchor points that can take a braking load. Ratings and dimensions come from the manufacturer documentation.
